Fall Swing Dance Workshops – November 17

Beginning and intermediate Lindy hop and solo jazz workshops.

Get ready for a day of dancing, learning, and fun with instructors from Portland and the Willamette Valley. Saturday’s dance will feature live music from the Cherry Blossom Orchestra of Portland.

Our instructor line-up includes: Rachael Ries (Portland), Mark Richmond (Portland), Denise Steele (Oregon), and Tiana Tom (Corvallis).

For beginning, intermediate, and advanced dancers.

Workshop Schedule

Saturday, November 17

    • 12:15 p.m.: Doors open/ Warm-up at Odd Fellows Hall
    • 12:30 – 2:00 p.m.: Beyond Beginning Lindy with Rachael & Mark:
      Learn new variations and fun moves to spice up your basic Lindy.
    • 2:15 – 3:15 p.m.: Solo Jazz Musicality (All levels) with Rachael:
      Refine your jazz movement and use it to hit different parts of the music.
    • 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.: Intermediate Lindy with Rachael & Mark:
      Learn about partner dynamics and work on new moves to make your connection pop on the dance floor.
    • 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.: Beginning Lindy with Denise Steele and Tiana Tom:
      Learn the traditional 1930s Savoy-style Lindy hop.
    • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Drop-in beginner swing lesson with Denise Steele and Tiana Tom
    • 8:00 – 10:30 p.m.: Downtown Swing Dance with live music from the Cherry Blossom Orchestra

All-access pass

An all-access pass includes all workshops and admission to the evening dance. Advanced registration is now closed. The price at the door will be $45.

A la carte

Want to take just one or two lessons? Ok! You can pay at the workshop. All lessons are $10-15 a la carte ($10 per hour of class). Admission for Saturday’s live music dance (with beginner lesson) is $12-15, sliding scale.

Workshop Level Descriptions

Beginner: No prerequisites.
Beyond beginner/Intermediate: You should be able to do a swing-out in Lindy hop.
All levels: No prerequisites. The content is geared toward multiple skill levels.
