This month, we have a live band and guest instructors as a part of our Fall Swing Dance Weekend.
Our guest instructors, Kali Henson and Austin Neverman, hail from Portland, Oregon. We’re excited to have them down a second time to teach the beginner drop-in lesson as well as the day’s workshops.
Boy & Bean, also of Portland, will play two hours of swing music for our dancing pleasure.
7 – 8 p.m. Intro 6-count swing lesson taught by Austin and Kali
8 – 11 p.m. Dancing to live swing music by Boy & Bean
Inspired primarily by the pre-war swing jazz stylings of The Mills Brothers and Ella Fitzgerald, Boy & Bean are taking Portland’s neo-swing movement by storm, and have become the sweethearts of the local swing dance scene.
The band features husband and wife team Amber and Luke Short on vocals and guitar, and Andrew Jones on the upright doghouse bass. Despite being a small outfit, they deliver incredible stage energy rooted in the soulful elegance of a bygone era.
