We’re here to share our favorite activity — swing dancing — with Corvallis.
The best dance in town is once per month on a Saturday evening at Odd Fellows Hall, featuring guest instructors, DJs and live music on occasion. All of our upcoming events can be found on our event calendar.
Swing dancing is an umbrella term for a group of dances - Lindy hop, Charleston, Balboa, and Shag - that grew up in the dance halls of the 1920s and 30s. Lindy hop was primarily innovated by African American dancers in Harlem, such as Frankie Manning and Norma Miller. It is what the world got when it mixed people having fun and early jazz music; this is how swing dancing was born.
People are Lindy hopping in this video, dancing to Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns in Portland at the Bossa Nova ballroom.
