The fall season is finally upon us and with that brings the return of our regular dance schedule.

Friday Swing Returns

Join us on Friday, September 29 for our first swing dance back at OSU.

  • 7:45 p.m.: Doors open
  • 8 – 9 p.m.: Beginner 6-count swing lesson
  • 9 – 11 p.m.: Dancing to music DJed by Annie, Tiana and Dakota

We’ll be at the OSU Women’s Building, room 116, and cover for the evening is $5.

Fall 2017 dance schedule

  • Friday dances at OSU: Sept. 29, Oct. 13, Nov. 17, and Dec. 1.
  • Saturday dances at Odd Fellows: Oct. 21, Nov. 11, and Dec. 16

Upcoming Classes

This fall, we’ve revamped our lesson structure to make it easier to progress from a beginner to an intermediate dancer.

Swing 1: Beginning 6-count Swing & Charleston

Our beginner drop-in classes start from the basics and cover a new set of moves each time. The aim is to get you comfortably moving and having fun on the dance floor.

This class is offered before every dance (see schedule above).

Lindy 1: Introduction to Lindy Hop

Starting Monday, October 2, we’re offering a 5-week Lindy hop lesson series. The class will cover basic 8-count footwork, promenade, swing-out, Lindy circle, and turns.

Charleston 1: Beyond Basic Charleston

Starting the week of November 6, join us for a 4-week partner Charleston series. The class will cover basic Charleston footwork, stalls, gear turns, and hand-to-hand Charleston.

This class is great for beginners or anyone who wants to go beyond our basic Charleston lessons.

  • Save the date: On November 10 – 11, we’re bringing in guest instructors to teach Balboa, Lindy hop, and solo jazz workshops.
  • We’ll be at the Beaver Community Fair on campus on Wednesday, September 20, from 12 – 4 p.m. Drop by to dance with us!

Swing Family Picnic this Thursday.

This month we’re celebrating our dance community with a potluck, live music, and dancing.

Breakers Yard_Weekend 2014

Join us this Thursday, August 24, for our 5th annual Swing Family Picnic. Breakers Yard of Eugene will provide swinging tunes for the evening.

Invite your friends and neighbors to this free community-friendly event.

  • 6:30 – 10:00 p.m.: Potluck and music
  • 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.: Dancing to live music from Breakers Yard

We’ll be at the Starker Arts Park, 4485 SW Country Club Dr., in the outdoor pavilion.

Style Your Swing

Our weekly practica continues on Thursday evenings through September 14.

Style Your Swing is part structured lesson, part guided practice, and a whole lot of dancing. Each week, we’ll have two different 40-minute lessons, followed by DJed swing music. Teachers will be around to give personalized feedback.

The event runs Thursdays, August 31 – September 14, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Odd Fellows Hall. Cover is a suggested donation of $5.

Dance in the Park this Thursday.

We’re taking swing dancing to the streets of Corvallis this month.

Join us this Thursday, July 13, for a free swing dance in the park. Invite your friends and neighbors to this community-friendly event.

  • 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.: Dancing to DJed swing music
  • 7:00 – 7:30 p.m.: Beginner Charleston lesson, taught by Ellen and Annie
  • 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.: Dancing to music DJed by Lindsey and Zach

We’ll be at the The Arts Center Plaza, 700 SW Madison Ave., adjacent to Central Park in Corvallis.

This month: workshops, live music, and dances.

On Saturday, May 13, we’re hosting a day of swing dance workshops, with instructors from Portland and Corvallis.

The first two workshops are geared toward intermediate dancers and are more conceptual in nature, covering musicality and stealing in swing dancing. While the final workshop is a break-down of the Mama Stew line dance and is open to all levels.

Workshops are $10 each or $30 for the whole day, including the evening dance.

Downtown Swing Dance

After the workshops, join us for an evening swing dance with live music from Swing & A Ms.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m., with a beginner lesson from Rachael Ries (Portland) starting at 7 p.m. The band will kick off the social dance at 8 p.m.

We’ll be at the Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St., and cover for the evening is $10.

Downtown Swing Dance Saturday.

Join us this Saturday, April 22 for a swing dance at our downtown venue, with guest instructors Nika Jin and Nick Davis of Track Town Swing Club.

Doors open at 6:45 p.m., with the beginner lesson starting at 7 p.m. DJs Nick Davis and Zach Wallace will provide three hours of swing music from 8 to 11 p.m.

We’ll be at the Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St., and cover for the evening is $7-10.

Spring events: dances, classes, live music, volunteer social.

Next Thursday, April 6, we’re hosting a free volunteer social at Odd Fellows Hall. This is a space for new and old members of the Corvallis Swing community to come together. Everyone is welcome!

It’s a potluck affair, beginning at 7 p.m. We’ll have a discussion about future plans for the community as well as a short presentation from the organizing council.

The last hour will be reserved for dancing and socializing.

Corvallis Swing Weekend: Live music, workshops, and dancing.

Get ready for our largest event of the year, the Corvallis Swing Weekend, happening November 18 – 20!

We’re welcoming back national dance champions, Josh and Emily, for two days of Lindy hop and Balboa workshops. The weekend includes two evening dances, with Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners headlining Saturday’s dance, and a Sunday afternoon dance.

Fresh from their European travels, Nick Davis and Nika Jin of Track Town Swing Club, are teaching the introductory lesson. Then, Nick and our own Zach Wallace will keeping the music going for the next three hours.

Dance in Independence Saturday. Picnic upcoming.

This Saturday, August 20, we’re traveling to Independence, Oregon to host our first ever out-of-town swing dance. Help us share the culture of swing dancing with the fine folks of this town.

Evening schedule

  • 6:20 p.m.: Carpool leaves from Corvallis
  • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Beginner Charleston lesson with Kelley Hungerford and Lindsey Almarode

We’ll be at Maxine’s Ballroom, 120 C St., Independence. Cover for the evening is $5.

Swing Family Picnic

Join us on Thursday, September 1 for our fourth annual Swing Family Picnic. We’re celebrating our dance community with a potluck, games, dancing, and live music from Breakers Yard.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the Starker Arts Park amphitheater in southwest Corvallis. There is no cover for the evening, but tipping the band is highly encouraged.

We’ll provide fixings for burgers (meat and vegetarian). Please bring a potluck dish to share.

Free Dance in the Park Thursday.

This Thursday, July 21, we’re hosting a free swing dance in Central Park during the Corvallis Arts Walk.

There will be a thirty minute introductory swing lesson, followed by two hours of swing dancing.
