Dance and workshop this weekend

We are hosting a dance and workshop this weekend, November 3 and 4.

Saturday: Swing & blues dance

On Saturday, Coyle Parker, from New Orleans, will be teaching and DJing at our dance at Odd Fellows Hall. The lesson starts at 7 p.m., followed by dancing from 8 until midnight. Cover is $5 – 7. RSVP on Facebook.

Sunday: Swing 172 workshop

On Sunday, Coyle will be joined by Rachael Ries, from Portland, for an advanced workshop.

You would be a good fit for the workshop if you’ve graduated from Swing 171, or have been dancing Lindy hop for a year or more and are confident with swingouts (video).

The workshop is at Odd Fellows Hall, starting at 1 p.m. and ending around 5. RSVP on Facebook. There will be snacks and breaks, and it’s $20.

If you would like a private lesson with one or both of them, we can make that happen. It would be about $40 for an hour. Both Michelle and Phil have done this, and learned a lot, if you want to ask either of them questions.

Swing 171 starts next week

Spring session of our Lindy hop class, Swing 171, starts next week, April 3rd.

If you want to learn how to Lindy hop, moving beyond basic swing, this is your class. Our inaugural session of Swing 171 this winter was a success, welcoming 10 graduates into the community, and we are excited to offer the class again.

Swing 171 is being lead by Corvallis’s premier swing teachers, with guest instructors from the greater Willamette Valley. This is a 10-lesson series, being held on Tuesday evenings at Odd Fellows Hall in Corvallis.

We have 2 spots remaining for follows, and 5 for leads.

Email us to reserve your spot, or register online.

If price is an issue, we can exchange labor instead of dollars — we will be happy to give you a few projects to work on. The important thing is to take the class if you’re excited about swing dancing.

Live music this Saturday

This Saturday, the Roaring River Jazz Band will be performing at our swing & blues dance at Odd Fellows Hall in downtown Corvallis. Roaring River is the first guest in our local, live music series, featuring swing bands from Corvallis and the surrounding area.

A dance lesson will begin the evening, at 7 p.m., lead by Drew Laiche of Eugene Swing. Live music will follow from 8 until 10:30 p.m., and a blues-dance late night will continue until 12:30 a.m.

Our suggested cover for this evening is $10. The event is free for Swing 171 students.

For your convenience, we have a Facebook event you can add to your calendar.

Swing 171 registration is open

Our premier lesson series is back for the spring season. If you love swing dancing, and have been itching to learn more Lindy hop, this is your class. We had 9 students from our winter class attend the Portland Lindy Exchange, the largest swing dance in Oregon.

We have spots for 10 men and women. It is a ten-week series, on Tuesdays at Odd Fellows Hall. The first class is April 3, and the last is June 5.

Please register here: http://corvallisswing.com/lessons/registration/.

Swing 171 starts today

Our Lindy hop class, Swing 171, starts today. If you want to learn how to Lindy hop, moving beyond basic swing, this is your class.

It is being lead by Phil Manijak and Michelle Jordan, two of Corvallis’ best, each having taught hundreds of people how to dance. Additionally, we will feature guest instructors specializing in the finer aspects of the dance. This is a 10-lesson series, being held on Tuesday evenings at Odd Fellows Hall in Corvallis.

We have 5 spots remaining for leads and follows, each.

To register, come to Odd Fellows Hall today, at 7:30 p.m., with $20, or register online and show up next week. After January 17 we will no longer take new students.

If price is an issue, we can exchange labor instead of dollars — we will be happy to give you a few projects to work on. The important thing is to take the class if you’re excited about swing dancing.
