Local swing band, Gumbo, is returning to Odd Fellows Hall for our monthly swing & blues dance this Saturday, March 14. As part of the Rhapsody in the Vineyard wine walk, the dance will be free of charge.

Avery will be teaching the intro swing lesson before the dance. Zach and Laurel will be our DJs during the band break and the blues set.

Community lesson series

This spring, our community is offering three different swing lesson series.

Brad Yentzer and Krista Barzen-Hanson are teaching two lesson series, running Thursdays, March 19 - April 16.

  • Beginning 6-count east coast swing: 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
  • Beginning 8-count Lindy hop: 7:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Phil Manijak and Kelley Hungerford are teaching a 4-week Charleston series, starting Tuesday, April 7 at 8 p.m.

All three lesson series will be held at Odd Fellows Hall.

  • Save the date: We're offering a swing dance workshop at OSU on May 15. It will be open to the community.

After winning over the crowds at our Swing & Blues Weekend, Audrey Perkins is returning with Swing & A Ms. for an evening of live music at Odd Fellows Hall this Saturday, February 21.

Veteran swing dancers, Martin and Renee Norred, will be teaching the intro swing lesson before the dance.

Phil Manijak will be DJing swing music during the band break and Zach Wallace will provide tunes for the blues portion of the evening.

Oh, and the theme for the evening is puzzles.

OSU Swing - January 9

We're back from the holiday break and excited to be dancing again! Lindsey and Hunter will be teaching a beginner lesson focused on the concept of connection. Students will learn basic Charleston footwork.

Swing & Blues Weekend. Winter schedule.

Over the past five and half months, we've been putting together the Corvallis Swing & Blues Weekend. It's our largest and favorite event of the year, with six dance events, five live bands, DJs from around the state, community activites, and late night food.

We've got friends coming from around the Pacific Northwest as well as the local community. The event is part dance exchange, part festival, and part family reunion.

Dance Saturday. Festival in January.

Our November swing and blues dance is this Saturday, in downtown Corvallis at Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St. It will feature a blues-dance lesson for all ages at 7 p.m., taught by professional instructor Catherine Liggett.

Dancing begins at 8 p.m., going until midnight, with music from Corvallis DJs Martin, Renee, Jeffrey, Catherine, Zach and Rian. Cover is $5-7. The decor for the evening will be birds, and the event is open to the public.

5th anniversary in January

Thank you for being a part of Corvallis Swing this past year. To celebrate our 5th anniversary, we are hosting a weekend-long festival at the end of January, named Swing and Blues Weekend.

The event, now in its 3rd year, will feature five performances, live and in person, from Oregon swing and blues musicians, 15 DJs from across the state, and visitors from across the country. It is our signature event.

A weekend pass for three nights of dancing is $50, and can be purchased on our event website, https://swingandblues.org. Making reservations in advance is encouraged, as attendance is limited to 150 guests. The weekend is January 23-25.

Swing & Blues Workshop Weekend - October 17th and 18th

Two days of workshops and dancing in the heart of the Willamette Valley. We're bringing together instructors from Portland, Eugene, and Corvallis for a weekend of dancing, learning and fun. Guest instructors include Dustin Henwood (Portland), Nick Davis (Eugene), Nika Jin (Eugene), Mateo Palfreman (Eugene), and Haven Sundstrom (Eugene). The weekend will also feature two nights of dancing to music from the valley's finest DJs.

Join us for an evening of swing and blues dancing at the Corvallis Riverfront in lieu of our regular Odd Fellows dance. Avery will teach a short, 30 minute beginner lesson. Don't miss our only swing and blues dance of the summer!

Thursday, August 7th: Swing Family Picnic

Free live music and dancing in Corvallis, as well as food and games!

It's mid-summer. The weather is nice, school is out, and free time abounds. Corvallis Swing is celebrating by hosting a free evening of food, games and music on Thursday, August 7.

Breakers Yard of Eugene will play music for us starting at 7.

Join us, and bring your friends, family, and a picnic basket along. This is going to be a blast.

    Next Saturday, we have another special event. The Lisa Mann Power Trio is traveling down from the blues-steeped city of Portland. There, they have been main components of the NW music scene for many years. Lisa Mann Power Trio have graced the same as some of the finest blues events: Waterfront Blues Festival, Bronze Blues & Brews, Untapped Blues Festival, and more.

    The evening will start out with a swing lesson, followed by two hours of DJed swing music, and at 10:00pm the Lisa Mann Power Trio takes the stage for the blues portion of the night!

    Dance this Saturday, new lesson series next week

    This Saturday, we're hosting a dance downtown. For the first swing & blues dance of the spring, we are excited to invite Eugene’s Track Town Swing Club to teach and DJ. Nick and Emily will travel to Corvallis on Saturday April 12th to teach the swing drop-in lesson.

    Nick and Mateo will then keep the evening going with mostly swing music.

    After 10 o’clock, local DJ Jeff will keep the night going with mostly blues music.

    Spring lesson series

    Our intermediate lesson series, Swing 178, starts on Monday, April 14. It will focus on adding more expression, improvisation and fun into your swing dancing.

    Swing 178 is a 5-week series, held on Mondays from April 14 through May 12, at Odd Fellows Hall, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. It's a class for anyone who has been to a dance before.

    We're sharing our favorite parts of swing dancing. What makes swing dancing fun? Each class will answer that question in a different way.

    Swing workshop with Andrew Sutton, dance Saturday

    World-class instructor Andrew Sutton will be teaching a workshop on Saturday, March 15 in downtown Corvallis.

    Andrew has placed first at the U.S. Open Swing Dance Championships, and has been teaching dance around the world for over 12 years. The workshop will focus on improvisation, follow expression, arm connection, and stealing games.
