Live music Saturday. Swing & Tango Weekend.

On Saturday, October 17, we're hosting our first swing and blues dance of fall, featuring live music from Corvallis favorite, Swing & Ms.

Our friends from Eugene, Nika and Mateo, will be teaching the intro lesson before the dance. Seasoned blues DJs, Laurel and Mark, will keep the music going until almost midnight.

Evening Schedule:

7:00 - 8:00 p.m.: Intro swing lesson with Nika and Mateo
8:00 - 10:00 p.m.: Live swing music from Swing & A Ms.
10:00 - 11:30 p.m.: Blues music DJ'ed by Laurel and Mark

We'll be at Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St, and cover for the evening is $10.

Swing & Tango Weekend

We're excited to announce Corvallis' first ever Swing & Tango Weekend on November 13-14, with seven workshops and two nights of dancing.

Friday is Argentine tango night, with two beginning workshops taught by Noah Brenner and an hour of dancing.

Saturday's workshops encompass Lindy hop, balboa, and blues. National dance champions, Josh and Emily, are returning to teach the balboa workshops. In the evening, there's a swing and blues dance, with guest DJs and instructors.

A weekend pass costs $40-50, sliding scale, and includes admission to all workshops and dances.

Swing returns. Fall dance schedule.

After a quiet summer, we’re excited to start dancing again.

This fall, we’re looking forward to an updated beginner lesson series; live music at our October Odd Fellows dance; and a weekend of workshops and dancing in November.

First dance of the term

Friday swing returns with snacks, sweet tunes, solo jamming, and the steal circle.

  • 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm : Beginner lesson focusing on swing connection taught by Ellen and Laurel
  • 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm : Dancing to swing music DJed by Phil, Laurel, and Lindsey

Beginning swing lessons for everyone

Swing 106 is an additive beginner swing lesson series. A variety of 6 and 8 count swing movements are taught along with the fundamental concepts of connection, frame, pulse, momentum, and musicality.

Each lesson includes a warm-up activity, new movements, music, and fun.

Lessons are every other Friday starting October 9, from 8 – 9 p.m. in Women’s Building, room 116.

Swing Family Picnic this Thursday.

Join us for our third annual Swing Family Picnic on Thursday, August 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Bruce Starker Arts Park. Breakers Yard of Eugene will be joining us to play some live tunes.

We’ll provide fixings for burgers (beef and vegetarian). Please bring a potluck dish to share.

Starker Arts Park is located at 4485 SW Country Club Dr., in Corvallis, and there is no cover for the evening.

National Dance Day.

On July 25, we’re gathering the greater Corvallis dance community for a day-long celebration of dance at the riverfront.

Corvallis’ first National Dance Day will feature peformances, lessons, and social dancing from tweleve different groups. The celebration will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a performance from Pu’uwai O Ke Kuawa (Heart of the Valley) Hula. We’ll be closing out the night with three hours of swing and blues dancing until 10:00 p.m.

We will be at Howland Plaza, near SW 1st & Madison, all day long.

Swing Family Picnic

Join us for our third annual Swing Family Picnic on Thursday, August 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Bruce Starker Arts Park in Corvallis.

We’re celebrating our community with a picnic, live music, dancing, and games. One of our favorite bands, Breakers Yard, will be playing for us.

Dance Saturday. Summer events.

This Saturday we’re hosting our final swing and blues dance at Odd Fellows Hall before the summer break.

We’ve lined up three out-of-town DJs for the evening. Rachael Ries from the Portland Lindy Society and Mateo Palfreman from Track Town Swing Club will play two hours of swing music. Starting at 10 p.m., Kristin Pugmire of Portland will DJ blues.

Local dancers, Brad Yentzer and Krista Barzen-Hanson, will teach the beginning swing lesson.

Swing Family Picnic

Balboa workshop Friday. Dance Saturday.

Balboa workshop

National dance champions, Josh McLaughlin and Emily Ernst, are heading down from Portland to teach an evening of balboa at OSU! Join them for three hours of workshops and dancing Friday, May 15, in the OSU Women’s Building.

Evening Schedule:

7:45 p.m.: Doors open
8:00 – 9:00 p.m.: Beginning balboa
9:00 – 9:15 p.m.: Snack break
9:15 – 10:15 p.m.: Bal-swing
10:15 – 11:00 p.m.: Dancing to DJ’ed music

Cost is $6 per workshop or $10 for both. Some social dance experience is recommended.

Downtown swing & blues dance

Emily Ernst is hanging out for another night to teach with Portland’s Rod Stewart at our monthly swing and blues dance on Saturday, May 16, at Odd Fellows Hall. The drop-in lesson begins at 7:00 p.m., followed by DJ’ed swing music at 8:00 p.m., and DJ’ed blues music at 10:00.

Cover is a sliding scale from $5-$7.

Solo jazz step throw down

Work up a sweat with an hour of non-stop solo jazz madness! Strut and stroll with hosts Phil Manijak and Kelley Hungerford as they lead the class in solo jazz routines designed for minimal talking and maximum dancing.

The throw down will be Tuesday, May 26, from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Odd Fellows Hall. This is a free event open to all skill levels.
