The fall dance season is winding down. We’re hosting two more dances before the holiday break.

This Friday, December 2 is our last OSU dance of 2016 and next Saturday, December 10 is our last downtown swing dance.

Friday Swing Dance at OSU

  • 8 – 9 p.m.: Beginner Charleston lesson taught by Emma and Tristan
  • 9 – 11 p.m.: Dancing to music DJed by Lindsey, Zoe, Annie, and Mark

We’ll be at the OSU Women’s Building, room 116, and cover for the evening is $5.

Intermediate Lindy workshops

This month’s workshop theme is Having FUN! The instructors have picked their favorite dance moves, tips, and techniques. Come learn what the pros think makes swing dancing so much fun!

  • Topics: Solo jazz improvisation, steal dancing, tuck turn variations, and building rhythm

Corvallis Swing Weekend: Live music, workshops, and dancing.

Get ready for our largest event of the year, the Corvallis Swing Weekend, happening November 18 – 20!

We’re welcoming back national dance champions, Josh and Emily, for two days of Lindy hop and Balboa workshops. The weekend includes two evening dances, with Jacob Miller and the Bridge City Crooners headlining Saturday’s dance, and a Sunday afternoon dance.

Work up a sweat with an hour of non-stop solo jazz madness! Strut and stroll with local instructors as they lead the class in solo jazz routines designed for minimal talking and maximum dancing.

Dance Saturday. Workshop weekend upcoming.

Join us this Saturday, October 15 for the return of swing dancing to downtown Corvallis.

Fresh from their European travels, Nick Davis and Nika Jin of Track Town Swing Club, are teaching the introductory lesson. Then, Nick and our own Zach Wallace will keeping the music going for the next three hours.

Evening schedule

  • 7 – 8 p.m.: Beginner swing dance lesson with Nick and Nika
  • 8 – 11 p.m.: Dancing to swing music DJed by Nick and Zach

We’ll be at Odd Fellows Hall, 223 SW 2nd St., and cover for the evening is $5-7.

After a quiet summer, we’re excited to start dancing again.

This fall, we’re looking forward to the return of our regularly scheduled dances; monthly workshops; and a weekend of workshops and dancing in November.

First dance of the term

Friday swing returns on September 30 with snacks, sweet tunes, solo jamming, and the steal circle.

  • 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm : Beginner lesson on 6-count swing, taught by Zach and Annie
  • 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm : Dancing to swing music DJed by Sophie, Laurel, and Zach

Monthly Swing Dance Workshops

In partnership with the Corvallis Swing Dance Society, Red Star Dance Studios is putting on monthly swing dance workshops downtown. Each month has a different theme and a variety of instructors.

  • Theme: Fundamentals of swing dance (all levels)
  • Topics: Pulse, half-time, positive partnership, and Lindy swing-outs

Dance in Independence Saturday. Picnic upcoming.

This Saturday, August 20, we’re traveling to Independence, Oregon to host our first ever out-of-town swing dance. Help us share the culture of swing dancing with the fine folks of this town.

Evening schedule

  • 6:20 p.m.: Carpool leaves from Corvallis
  • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Beginner Charleston lesson with Kelley Hungerford and Lindsey Almarode
  • 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.: Dancing to swing music DJed by Zach, Dakota, and Eileen

We’ll be at Maxine’s Ballroom, 120 C St., Independence. Cover for the evening is $5.

Swing Family Picnic

Join us on Thursday, September 1 for our fourth annual Swing Family Picnic. We’re celebrating our dance community with a potluck, games, dancing, and live music from Breakers Yard.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m. at the Starker Arts Park amphitheater in southwest Corvallis. There is no cover for the evening, but tipping the band is highly encouraged.

We’ll provide fixings for burgers (meat and vegetarian). Please bring a potluck dish to share.

Free Dance in the Park Thursday.

This Thursday, July 21, we’re hosting a free swing dance in Central Park during the Corvallis Arts Walk.

There will be a thirty minute introductory swing lesson, followed by two hours of swing dancing.

  • 7:00 – 7:30 p.m.: Beginner Charleston lesson with Lindsey Almarode and Ellen Leinhaupel
  • 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.: Dancing to swing music DJed by Sophie, Eileen and Dakota
