February 27, 2011
Hello. Thank you for reading our newsletter and being involved in our community. This is a good note to read if you’ve been meaning to go out dancing more often, perhaps waiting for the perfect occasion.
In one year, our group has grown from hosting a monthly dance, with outside help, to running a weekly venue with 14 DJs and 16 instructors from Corvallis. For our monthly swing and blues collaboration, people travel from 14 cities throughout the valley to attend. Thank you for your time and enthusiasm, as building a swing community is the work of many.
Some excellent events are approaching, but we are only going to write about one:
Portland Lindy Exchange 2011: March 4-6
If you attend one dance in your lifetime, please attend the Portland Lindy Exchange next weekend. A Lindy exchange is the pinnacle of swing dancing, with its focus on community, great music and fun.
Without this event, the Corvallis Swing Dance Society would not exist. The Portland exchange is an inspiration, an exhibition of what is possible in a dance community. People from across the country will be making the trip. It is the closest event of its kind, and it only happens every-other year.
We have a group of 20 heading up for the occasion. Contact us if you would like to be part of our carpool.
If you can only get away for a day, we recommend going up on Saturday, March 5. Furthermore, because we will all be in Portland, our Sunday, March 6 dance is canceled.
- Free dance at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Live music. 1-4 p.m.
- Main event at Bossa Nova. Two bands. 7:30 p.m. - Midnight. $20.
- Late night at Scottish Rite. Live music. Midnight - 5 a.m. $10.
- There will be a blues room at the Scottish Rite, too.
- Nothing important! Go to Portland, March 4-6.
