December Dances. 10th Anniversary Weekend.

Happy December! We have two remaining dances this year. Our final OSU dance of the term is this Friday, December 6 and our last downtown dance at Odd Fellows is Saturday, December 14.

Friday Swing Dance at OSU

  • 7:45 p.m.: Doors open
  • 8:00 – 9:00 p.m.: Beginner swing lesson with Lindsey Almarode and Pierre Carr
  • 9:00 – 11:00 p.m.: Dancing to music DJed by Bailey Keefe, Zach Wallace, and Laurel Thompson

We’ll be at the OSU Women’s Building, and cover for the evening is $5.

Downtown Swing Dance

Our guest DJ this month is the illustrious Kristin Buxton of Eugene, who will join our own Rebecca Hicks (recently relocated to Roseburg).

  • 6:45 p.m.: Doors open
  • 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.: Beginner swing lesson with Tiana Tom and Emily Palmer
  • 8:00 – 10:30 p.m.: Dancing to music DJed by Kristin Buxton (Eugene) and Rebecca Hicks (Roseburg)

We’ll be at Odd Fellows Hall, and cover for the evening is a sliding scale of $7-10.

Corvallis Swing Weekend

We’re celebrating our 10th anniversary in 2020 by throwing a 3-day dance party, featuring live music from Stealin’ Apples Jazz Band with Jen Hodge, Cherry Blossom Hot 5, and Breakers Yard. Join us January 31 – February 2 for over 18 hours of music and dancing, special guest DJs, evening and late night dances, snacks, and community activities.

Upcoming Lesson Series: Collegiate Shag

This January, we’re teaching a 4-week Collegiate Shag series on Mondays, starting January 6, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Collegiate Shag is partner dance that originated in the 1930s, known for its high energy and hopping basic step. This class is open to all ages and all levels. Cost for this series is $35 in advance or $40 at the door.

Live Music Dance Saturday. Anniversary Weekend Registration Open.

Join us this Saturday, November 23 for a downtown dance featuring live swing music and guest instructors from Portland.

We’re excited to welcome back local swing band, Gumbo. Gumbo synthesizes the roots of music heard in the American South in the first half of the 20th century, including less familiar vintage gems as well as original songs and compositions.

OSU Swing Dance on Friday. October Dances and Lessons.

Our fall dance season begings this Friday with our first OSU dance of the academic year.

Dance on Friday

Join us for our First Swing Dance of the Term this Friday, October 11th at OSU.

Lindy 1: Introduction to Lindy Hop

This 5 week lesson series will run Mondays, October 21 – November 18, with lessons from 7-8 p.m. and additional practice time until 8:30 p.m. This series will cover the basics of Lindy Hop: 8-count footwork, swing-out, Lindy circle, turns, footwork variations and more. This class is open to all ages and all levels. Individuals or partners welcome. Willingness to rotate partners is required. Cost for this lesson is $45 during pre-registration or $50 at the door. October Downtown Swing Dance

Join us on Saturday, October 26th for our Downtown Swing Dance with guest teachers and DJs. The decor for this dance is Pumpkins.

Classes continue. Fall season starts October 11.

Happy September! We’re winding up our summer classes with a two week introduction to Collegiate Shag at Style Your Swing on Wednesday, September 11 and 18. Collegiate Shag originated in the 1930s and falls under the umbrella of swing dance, similar to Charleston, Lindy hop, and Balboa. Check out this video of a recent Collegiate Shag competition at Camp Hollywood.

Join us on Mondays, October 21 – November 18 at 7 p.m. for our premiere lesson series. Lindy 1 will cover basic 8-count Lindy hop footwork, connection, swing-out, turns, and other fun moves.

Track Town Throwdown

Our friends at Track Town Swing our holding their first ever weekend event on October 4 – 6, the Track Town Throwdown. They’ve got a stellar lineup of international instructors, plus the amazing Stealin’ Apples Jazz Band featuring Jen Hodge.

The event features two days of workshops, two nights of dancing to live music, competitions, and daytime activities. Workshops are available for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Registration is available at: tracktownthrowdown.com/registration/
