The evening begins with an hour long introductory swing lesson taught by Kelley Hungerford and Becca Hicks, followed by two hours of social dancing.

Downtown Swing Dance

This month, we’ll be dancing to live music from the Stealin’ Apples Jazz Band.

Lead by Shane Allen, a swing pianist, bandleader, and dancer, the Stealin’ Apples Jazz Band is a new group out of Eugene, Oregon. The band features the hardest-swinging musicians this side of South Sister, with a songbook focused on the most danceable swing tunes ever recorded by bands from Count Basie’s Orchestra to Benny Goodman’s small groups.

Join us for our monthly downtown swing dance, with guest DJs.

Our two guest DJs are Nick Davis and Kristin Buxton, of Eugene. Nick, the founder of Track Town Swing Club, has DJed at prestigious dance events such as Herrang (Sweden), Camp Jitterbug (Seattle), and Midwest Lindy Fest (Minneapolis). Kristin has been DJing at swing and blues events around the country regularly since 2001.

Beginning Swing Lessons

Beginning Swing Lessons

Come learn the basics of swing dancing in our drop-in classes before each dance. Lesson topics vary from dance to dance, but will always cover basic footwork and a couple of different moves.

Each lesson is an hour long and is designed to get you moving and on the dance floor.

Bring a partner or come by yourself; we rotate partners frequently during the lesson. You’re free to choose whether to lead or follow, regardless of gender.

What should I wear?

Swing dancing is an athletic activity. Wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable to move in.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing a water bottle, deodorant, and a heart full of silliness.

This 5-week lesson series will cover basic 8-count footwork, swing-out, Lindy circle, turns, footwork variations, and more. The goal is to get you comfortable and having fun on the dance floor.

This class is all ages, individuals and partners welcome. Willingness to rotate partners and dance with different people in class is required.

For this series, you can pay $40 in advance or $50 at the door.
